Tollards Dedicated Continuing Professional Development Area

The Tollards Training and Development Centre, based at the West of England School and College is dedicated to the provision of quality training and development to maintain the currency of professional knowledge and skills.

The Centre offers training programmes for external candidates from further education and work-based learning providers, the voluntary sector and special schools and colleges.

Supporting the Learner Journey

Supporting the Learner Journey is a CPD framework, accredited by the OCN South West Region, designed specifically for the professional development of anyone supporting people who are endeavouring to learn in any setting and context.

There are 14 units that include generic needs, for example roles and responsibilities, initial assessment and safeguarding.

Other units focus on strategies for supporting people with specific difficulties such as mental health issues, sensory impairment, physical difficulties and those on the Autistic spectrum.

Support for this delivery:

Consultancy - Recommended for Learning Support Managers, Training Developement Managers or anyone tasked with the role of identifying appropriate learning opportunities for staff supporting learning.

Train the trainer - Recommended for Learning Support Managers, Training Developement Managers or anyone tasked with the role of delivering appropriate learning opportunities for staff supporting learning.

Strategies to Support Blind and Partially Sighted Learners into Employment

The project is an extension to the CPD Framework Supporting the Learner Journey for learning support practitioners. The four units comprising this module specialise in providing knowledge and skills to staff who are supporting learners with visual impairment as well as providing information, advice and guidance to learners who are progressing into employment.
